La Costa de Papito Hotel

La Costa de Papito is located 4 hours driving time from San Jose at Playa Cocles one and a half kilometers (1 mile) southeast of Puerto Viejo town. We are 5 minutes by car outside of town on the beach road, 10 minutes by bicycle and 25 minutes walking.

Playa Cocles is host to the Puerto Viejo open surf tournament in January and July when the waves are delicious. In May, September and October the ocean flattens out into a smooth transparent blue, ideal for snorkeling, fishing and carefree floating.

Interestingly, while it rains everywhere else in Costa Rica during September and October, on the south Caribbean coast we have only sunny weather! Apparently the hurricanes passing deep in the Caribbean suck out the moisture here on the coast and circle it back as rain in the Central Valley and the Pacific coast.

La Costa de Papito: A lush tropical "Garden of Eden" on the edge of the jungle.

Bahía Hotel

This hotel is located at the Southern tip of Third Street, in a majestic antique wooden building, that had already celebrated its hundredth anniversary and is still standing firm despite the ravages of time and the destructive earthquakes of 1917 and 1991. Built in 1905, it is considered one of the oldest buildings in the area.

This building, which had housed the main offices in Bocas del Toro of the United Fruit Company, three consulates and the Tropical Radio & Telegraph Company is, since 1968, home to the Bahía Hotel, which has been object of a complete makeover including remodeling of all it’s rooms, without loosing the enchantment of the old Bocas del Toro days.

In the lobby you can observe a very old and huge safe, which was installed in 1905, while the construction of the building was still going. This safe, that survived the fire of 1904, was used to keep away the money to pay the suppliers and small banana farmers in the area.

Gran Hotel Bahia has the most spacious and comfortable rooms, all of them with A/C, Cable TV and private bathroom with hot shower. Its friendly and relaxing environment let our Distinguished Guests feel at home.

That’s why we invite you to relax in the upper floor grand balcony, where the buffet style breakfast is also served, and enjoy the magnificent view of the bay and Main street, introducing yourselves in the particular local history and the incomparable beauty of an ecological bio diverse and legendary area.
