Day 1, Welcome

We will meet you after your international flight at the SJO Airport at the arrivals area and drops you off at your hotel. When you leave the arrivals building after you clear immigration and pick up your luggage, look for a representative holding a sign with your name on it and follow his lead.

Our suites, single and double rooms, have private bath with hot water, overhead fan, phone and cable TV, and some of them also have air conditioning. Several of our rooms are specially adapted for our incapacitated guests.

Day 2, San José - Arenal

The Combo tour is an intense fun filled set of excursions where you will embark on three distinct adventures.

As we ascend the terrain and near the Poás Volcano we will notice a change in temperature and vegetation; we will see coffee plantations as well as fern, flower and strawberry farms along the way, creating a beautiful array of colors and textures.

On the way to the volcano we will visit the Doka Coffee Estate for a delicious breakfast. Then we will be treated to a coffee tour in an actual coffee plantation where we will learn the ancient techniques used by the experts to produce some of the best coffee in Costa Rica and around the world. The careful process involved in the cultivation, harvesting and roasting of the Golden Bean will then be illustrated, very hands-on, and then we will savor the delectable end product.

This fun Costa Rica coffee tour takes you on an up close excursion of the inner workings of an exemplary plantation highlighted by old traditions and modern technology that merge in an interesting harvesting process.  The Doka Estate coffee tour facilities boast a coffee museum, lush gardens, an old coffee mill, La Cajuela restaurant and a gift shop where you can acquire our Tres Generaciones coffee and a wide variety of souvenirs.  Be sure to check out the different roasts and blends available at the on-site shop; We offer different types of roasts including European, French, Peaberry and Italian Espresso roasts, as well as their signature house blend and breakfast blend.  As recipients of the ‘Worlds Best Coffee’ award for 2 consecutive years, Doka Estate Coffee Tour is devoted to sharing the art and tradition that are an integral part of their everyday lives.  Our Real Coffee Tour takes between 50 min to 1 hour.

After the coffee tour we will continue to the Poás Volcano where we will not only admire the impressive main crater with its sulfur fumaroles, but also learn about the different ecosystems in this unique and protected national park.

Following the visit to the volcano we will continue to the La Paz Water Fall Garden for a scrumptious lunch and tour. As we arrive to La Paz, we will walk through a trail, leading to a spectacular waterfall in the middle of the rainforest. Inside the park we will also visit the hummingbird gallery, the serpentarium, the bird house, the butterfly garden and the frog’s exhibit; to be enjoyed by those of all ages.

The excellent combination of fine, indigenous woods in each of our cabañas, for example pine, oak, almond tree, laurel and tamarind tree, among others. The luscious gardens combined with the beauty of the scenic Arenal volcano will make your stay unforgettable at our property.

These charming rooms have an exterior terrace from which you can view birds, butterflies that flutter amongst the flowers and plant life in the hotel gardens. You can read your favorite book or simply breathe in the tranquility that you feel at this hotel.

Arenal Montechiari Hotel has 21 rooms and each has two double beds, air conditioning, hot water, cable television, a mini-fridge and coffee maker.

Day 3, Arenal

Arenal Combo Tour: La Fortuna Waterfall + Chocolate Tour

There are so many things to do near the Arenal Volcano, we thought we’d combine two of what we consider some of the most interesting activities: a nature hike to the La Fortuna Waterfall and a fabulous chocolate tasting tour! Your naturalist guide will pick you up from your hotel and take a fun drive up a country road to the breathtaking 150-ft La Fortuna Waterfall. Once we arrive to the base of the extinct Cerro Chato Volcano, we’ll hike down to the bottom of one of the largest waterfalls in the Northern Zone..

The hike is about 300 steps to get down a well-maintained path, and 300 steps to get back up! Its quite a good workout! While you are down there, swim in the crystalline pool beneath the impressive waterfall and take advantage of some beautiful photo ops! Soak up the nature, birds, rainforest, and enthralling sounds and sites of this enchanting La Fortuna attraction. It is truly amazing there -- Mother Nature at her best! When you come back up from the waterfall and change into your dry clothes, we’ll then head to a local restaurant to feast on a traditional Costa Rican meal. When you are relaxed and refueled, we will head down the road to the cacao plantation to learn about the chocolate making process, and get to taste some freshly made chocolate! Have you ever seen where cacao comes from? While in their pods, cacao beans are actually covered in a delicious fruity pulp that you can snack on before roasting the bean. Yum! After learning about the process and history of chocolate making, you’ll be impressed to find out what REAL chocolate looks and tastes like. This kind of chocolate has a wide range of health benefits so don’t feel guilty about eating a lot of it!.

This is the quintessential Arenal Volcano tour to do when you’re in La Fortuna! The Arenal Volcano Rainforest & Natural History tour takes you through lush rainforest along the base of Costa Rica's most-famous, iconic volcano. Our experienced, bilingual naturalist guide will point out interesting plants and wildlife in the vibrant primary and secondary rainforest of the El Silencio nature reserve that skirts the Arenal Volcano National Park. You’ll then arrive to the observation point of the Arenal Volcano -- this is the closest you can get to the base of the Arenal Volcano -- and the perfect vantage point to take remarkable photos as the sun sets behind the Arenal Volcano. After getting picked up from your hotel, we’ll drive through the beautiful Costa Rican back roads to our private put-in at the Balsa River, equipped with bathrooms and change rooms. Your professional guide will start the day off by providing paddling and safety instructions and then suiting you up with safety gear to prepare for your adventure!

Challenge yourself as you paddle down 10 kilometers of exciting rapids with names like “Congo Loco” and “Rock around the Croc”. As you descend down the river, you’ll have a chance to admire the lush greenery, vines, and different types of insects, birds and animals, like monkeys and sloths! Half way down the river you’ll have a chance to see the river rapids from the shore, while enjoying fresh tropical fruit and relaxing with the rest of your group! You might want to bring water, a camera, sunscreen, bug spray, and your binoculars while you hike in the Park, and if you so desire bring your bathing suit and towel for a relaxing afternoon at the beach after your hike and guided adventure.

Day 10, Departure

During the day you will have a transfer to the San José International Airport to take your International flight back home.

Please ask the Adventure Inn’s receptionist when you check in to arrange a free transfer for you at whatever time you wish to leave for the International (SJO) Airport. This way you arrive quickly and safely to the airport prior to your flight at no cost to you.

Meal included: Breakfast.

Colonial Hotel

We’re your perfect hosts for a restful vacation in cozy surroundings, a restored neocolonial building nearly a century old, located in the National Civic Center, one of the safest places in San José, close to tourist attractions. In this gentle environment, we’ll make you feel at home throughout your entire visit.

Only three blocks from the Supreme Court Building, two blocks from the National Museum and “Plaza de la Democracia”, four blocks from Central Park and the Metropolitan Cathedral, and very close to good restaurants, supermarkets, and the National Theater. Architectural Details

The residence was built of brick, inlaid with hand carved precious woods and ironwork by the finest craftsmen of the period. The façade is abundantly studded with stone, while spiral columns grace the front garden.

From the lobby, vestibule and dinette, you may note the hand carved mahogany beams and corbels, and the cloister-like arches delimiting the common areas and the interior of the building.

Staircase railings are of wrought iron, the upper floors are cristobal (tropical redwood), and closet doors are hand carved. The three balcony verandas are wrought iron.
