While aboard our modern Catamaran boats, you will be captivated by the sight of frolicking dolphins in the boat’s wake, or the inimitable sound of a whale’s song. As we make our way down the coastline of Manuel Antonio National Park, the mysterious islands, jagged cliffs and unique rock formations will look almost close enough to reach out and touch. These are the nesting grounds and home for numerous species of marine birds, including pelicans, boobies and ibises.

While touring the coastline, the captain will host the sails, wind permitting, and you will delight in the feel of the catamaran cutting quietly through the blue waters of the Pacific. Our knowledgeable, onboard guide will be ready to answer any questions you have, and will point out sights of interest while giving a brief history of the area. After touring the coastline, we will anchor in a protected cove within the pristine Biesanz Bay for an unforgettable snorkeling adventure in the warm pacific waters. We provide the masks, snorkels and fins; everything you need to dive in and observe the underwater playground for over 50 species of colorful tropical fish. Afterwards, come back on board and enjoy the delicious lunch we will have prepared for you: Grilled fresh fish brochettes with onion and green pepper and scrumptious dipping sauces, pasta salad with vegetables, homemade pesto sauce, fresh tropical fruit, homemade flan, the freshest Costa Rican coffee, cocktails and natural fruit drinks. You will discover the true meaning of the word paradise, as you relax on our boat in the tranquil bay, surrounded by the lush green landscape and the soothing sounds of the ocean.

The last leg of the tour is the trip back to the Quepos dock. The viewing of one of our dramatic sunsets on the way back to shore is an added bonus for those who enjoy our afternoon tour in the summer months. You will spend 3 ½ hours aboard our ship, but the memories will last a lifetime.

CORCOVADO NATIONAL PARK TOUR

Corcovado National Park, know as the Amazon of Costa Rica, is the largest stronghold of primary forest on a Pacific coastline that has been all but destroyed from Mexico to South America. Its 41,788 hectares encompass eight habitats, from mangrove swamp and jolillo palm grove to mountain forest. The park protects more than 400 species of birds (20 are endemic), 116 of amphibians and reptiles, and 139 of mammals–representing 10 percent of the mammals in the Americas. Its healthy population of scarlet macaws (about 1,200 birds) is the largest concentration in Central America. You can expect to see large flocks of macaws in flight or feeding on almond trees by the shoreline.

Corcovado is a good place to spot the red-eyed tree frog (listen for his single-note mating “cluck”), the glass frog with its transparent skin, and enamel-bright poison-arrow frogs. And you can watch fishing bats doing just that over rivers at night. You can even try your own hand for snook inside the mouths of the coastal rivers on incoming tides. They strike plugs all year and during the fall become very aggressive.

Corcovado is one of only two places in Costa Rica that harbor squirrel monkeys (the other is Manuel Antonio). It’s also one of the last stands in the world for the harpy eagle, although it hasn’t been seen here in the last several years and may now be extinct in Costa Rica. As recently as the 1970s, tapirs were so numerous around Lago Corcovado that squatters were killing them just for fun. Four species of sea turtles–green, Pacific ridley, hawksbill, and leatherback–nest on the park’s beaches. And the park supports a healthy population of big cats and crocodiles, which like to hang around the periphery of the Corcovado Lagoon. Jaguar paw prints are commonly seen in the mud trails, and the cats are often sighted.

The Osa Peninsula bears the brunt of torrential rains from April to December. It receives up to 400 cm per year. The driest months, January-April, are the best times to visit.
