Day 2             SAN JOSE – PUERTO VIEJO

AM Pick Up car at Hotel and then driving to Puerto Viejo if Limón, 4.5 hrs approximately

Puerto Viejo is a small to medium sized Caribbean villiage on the Atantic coast of Costa Rica, south of Puerto Limon. Famed for its relaxed atmosphere, beautiful beaches, and rich mix of latino, Afro-Caribbean, and Bribri indiginous culture, Puerto Viejo is becoming an increasingly popular tourist destination.

The town of Puerto Viejo is rustic and charming. The only paved road is the main highway which runs along the coast from Limon to Manzanillo. The rest of the streets are dirt-paved, lined with hotels, restaurants, shops, and Caribbean style dwellings. The people of Puerto Viejo are open and friendly to tourists, and know how to show visitors a good time.

Most of the people in Puerto Viejo speak at least some English, as well as spanish and often Patois (the local Caribbean dialect), so if you are an English-speaking tourist you should have an easy time communicating. Tourists come here from all over the world, and Puerto Viejo is a great place to meet international travelers from many exotic countries.

Despite the recent rise in the tourist trade, Puerto Viejo has managed to maintain its small-town atmosphere and rustic local appeal. Most of the businesses in town are small and operated by the owners. In the streets, local artists and artisans sell their wares. The atmosphere is laid back and slow paced. Puerto Viejo is a great place to relax on the beautiful Caribbean shores of Costa Rica.

Day 4          PUERTO VIEJO – ARENAL

During the morning driving to Arenal Volcano area, after arrival you have the rest of the day at leisure! On the way to Arenal, you will pass by small picturesque towns and you will enjoy of beautiful landscapes.

The summit of the Arenal Volcano, rising 1,633 meters above sea level and continuously active since 1968, towers far above the northern plains overlooking a wind-swept lake and pristine cloud forests reserves.  An incredibly diverse population of wildlife awaits you in this part of Costa Rica.

Driving along winding roads, you climb higher into the surrounding mountains, where temperatures drop to a refreshing 70-75 degrees F.

Off in the distance one can see the dark green and blue silhouettes of the Guanacaste and Tilaran mountain ranges. The ideal way to visit this region is by car. The landscapes as you drive along twisting roads make for incredible photographs.
Of the 850 bird species identified in Costa Rica, 600 are permanent residents in their region. Don't forget the binoculars!!

The weather in this particular region tends to characterize itself with warm daytime temperatures (low to mid 80's) and relatively high humidity. There are intermittent rain showers that usually pass quickly. From late February to early May, the rain lessens in frequency which allows for fantastic skyscapes during sunrise and sunset.

Our cables are located in such a way that they start from platforms at ground level that if a tree did fall it will not produce any time laps in the tour. The cables, 10 in total, span lengths of 200 meters up to the longest of 800 meters; each cable offers a different sensation and experience crossing canyons, observing waterfalls, over the tops of trees or leaving from a spectacular OBSERVATION TOWER 18 meters high. The Fortuna and Pino Blanco waterfalls, along with the majestic Arenal Volcano accompany us on this trek.

Day 6         ARENAL - UVITA

During the day driving to Uvita in the South Pacific

What makes Uvita beach stand out from the rest of the amazing beaches of Costa Rica? Uvita beach is very unique indeed. The natural formation of the two bays/beaches meeting together forms a perfect natural formation of a Whale's Tail. This is rather ironic considering Uvita is smack dab in the middle of a humpback migratory route making for an excellent locale to go whale watching.Although not overly popular for it's surf, Uvita is still a great place for beginners looking to get their feet wet per se, in to the surfing experience.

As you can see from the photos, Uvita beach is home to beautiful tourquoise waters of the Pacific and being a part of the Costa Ballena National Park, the area is filled with wildlife and sealife of all species.

Lodging: La Cusinga Lodge or similar. Meals Included: Breakfast

Day 7         TRAILS & ARCO BEACH

Take the Raices Trail to get to the hidden gem of the Marino Ballena National Park. It is a beautiful dark sand beach with a distinctive sea cave at the south. Best visited at low tide, this beach offers opportunities for wildlife viewing in the forest that begins at the high tide line and along the beach and tide pools.
Surfing and swimming are also possible here. A short trail to Playa Ballena begins at the small beach behind the arch (southern most part of the beach) and goes up the hill and down again to Playa Ballena. Watch the tides to avoid having to wait for another low tide (about 6 hours) to return to Playa de Arco and the Lodge.
