The trails wind along the La Paz River through both Cloud and Rainforest showing the diversity of the plant life, while not disturbing the natural surroundings.
The Nature Park includes the largest Butterfly Observatory in the world. Spanning the length of a regulation NFL football field and reaching a height of fifty feet, the enclosed housing allows butterflies to fly naturally. An on-site laboratory adds a scientific view to the intriguing creatures. Over twenty species of butterflies are followed from egg to larva to pupa, culminating with guests releasing a newly emerged butterfly into its first flight.
The Hummingbird Garden adds new meaning to ‘bird-watching’. You will be amazed at how quickly the tiny birds buzz around, carefully avoiding everything in their path, except their food. For further enhancement, guides turn you into ‘human feeders’. As one holds the feeder within arms reach, the seemingly skittish birds show no fear as they eat until their hearts content, or one’s arm tires.
After hiking through the forest, releasing a butterfly and feeding a hummingbird, you will be able to enjoy a meal at Waterfall Gardens’ buffet style restaurant, Tortilla’s (not included in the price).
