Descriptions:

Day 1       Arrival

Arrival at the International Airport Juan Santamaria, transfer to your Hotel.
Lodging: Hotel Vesuvio in San José. Meals included: none

Day 2       Old Lava Rivers.

Early morning transfer to the Volcan Turrialba Lodge driving through San Jose to the east, passing the city of Cartago ( our former capital) and beginning your ascend near the Irazu volcano, one the most fertile areas in the country. In the afternoon begins your adventure traveling through the Tropical Cloud Forest, you will see Volcán Turrialba´s former lava rivers, small and new water nascent today, that run down hill, and huge magma rocks. The horse ride will follow the tropical path called ¨Camino de Gobierno¨, that was used by our ancestors to travel from the Central Valley to Guápiles. Besides the natural beauty, which is the forest itself, you will be able to glance at different local crops of the region, as well as all the pastures used for raising cattle. You can either choose to make this tour Horse back riding , Mountain Biking or Hiking

Day 3       Turrialba Volcano

The Volcán Turrialba will allow you to explore the interior of it's crater in a journey that will take approximately one hour and a half, horse back riding in a forest typical of the Paramo (tiny vegetation). You will ascend to the peak of the volcano, where you will have the opportunity to appreciate one of the best panoramic views in this country at a level of 3328 meters above sea level. A short list of some of the visible sites from this place includes Irazú, Barva and Poás Volcanoes, the Atlantic Cost and all of its plains, the Central Valley and the highest mountain chain in the country: Talamanca, located south of the Turrialba Volcano. This tour will take approximately 5 hours. Given the nature of this journey, which starts at 2800 meters above sea level, we recommend this tour be taken by people in good physical shape, age being no consideration, of course.

Volcán Turrialba is the only one in Costa Rica that enables you to horse back ride or walk in its crater, being this a unique and once in a lifetime experience that we are sure will be of your complete satisfaction. Day 4       Las Pilas ( The Ponds) and Transfer to Turrialba

This tour can be made only by walking, and the estimated time for the tour is 3 hours. Begins on the old "Camino de Gobierno"(government road) or "picada to Guapiles", that passes next to the hotel " Ruta de los Conquistadores" (the conquerors' route), the tour walks about 1 kilometer in this path following to a place known as "El Martillo' (the hammer);name that receives for its similar form to this tool. This area possesses an impressive vegetation as well as wild life, typical of the Cloud Tropical Forest and Rain Tropical Forest. The first of the old lava rivers of theTurrialba Volcano is skirted, leading to the National Park "Braulio Carrillo", then, following the nascent of the "Quebrada Gata" river, up to the highest ground of the national park, then, descending through the walls of the rock, where several nascent reach the piles or natural puddles, inside the old rivers of lava.
In the afternoon, after enjoying a delicious lunch, a private transfer will take you to the picturesque town of Turrialba where you will spend the night and have time to explore a typical costarican town.

Day 5       Pacuare River Rafting

The Pacuare River is one of the top five rafting rivers in the world for its scenery and rapids. This quintessential tropical river is a trip of pure magic, unsurpassed beauty, wildlife and exhilarating rapids. Located on Costa Rica's Atlantic slope, the Pacuare River borders the Talamanca mountain range, home to native Cabecar Indians and an incredible variety of wildlife Once at the river at our private put-in, you'll raft 16 miles deep in the heart of densely vegetated gorges, past gushing waterfalls, serene pools and pounding rapids, in one of Costa Rica's most impressive primary rainforests.

After an adrenaline-packed afternoon running rapids like Upper and Lower Huacas, Cimarron, Dos Montanas and many more, you will enjoy a delicious lunch. On the return drive to San José, you'll enjoy remarkable views of Braulio Carrillo National Park and Irazú Volcano. This unforgettable trip will easily be a highlight of your stay in Costa Rica!

Day 6       San Jose - Jacó 

Jaco Beach, one of the most popular beaches in the country. It is located only 2 hours from San Jose and it is a "surf town" with all the services you may need to have a wonderful vacation: restaurants, bars, casino, discoteques, medical services, etc. Enjoy the sun and the beach or take one of our optional tours like: Horseback riding, ATV Tour , Cruise to Isla Tortuga, etc.

Day 7      Waterfalls  Canopy Tour

Three beautiful waterfalls and the plants and animals of a transitional jungle combined with an exciting ride along steel cables.

Thirteen platforms ranging from ground level to over 100 feet above the forest floor including a Tarzan Swing, Suspension Bridge and a fully furnished 3 Story Treehouse in the style of Robinson Crusoe.

At the end of the tour is an extra long cable with an 90 foot rappel down for the truly adventurous.

Day 8       Kayaking and  Snorkeling

A great combination to take advantage of the best of Jaco's most beautiful feature: the Ocean.After a short drive to a secluded beach and some brief instruction we're off. Watch frigate birds and pelicans glide overhead as you paddle along the spectacular coastline. Land on a deserted beach where you will have the opportunity to do some snorkeling and explore the reefs looking for colorful tropical fish.

Day 9       Departure

This air conditioned private transfer will pick you up to take you to the International Airport Juan Santamaria in time to take your flight back home.
